Rev. Billy Bishop

Pastor

Pastor Billy Bishop has been faithfully serving the Northside family since 2019. He first joined the church as Minister of Music, where his heart for worship quickly became evident. In 2022, the congregation called him to serve as Pastor—a role through which he continues to lead with God’s vision, and a deep love for God’s people.

It was at Northside that Pastor Billy met his wife, Makaela, on his very first Sunday. The two were married later that year, in December, and have joyfully served side by side in ministry ever since. Together, they share a passion for seeing lives transformed by the gospel and for building a vibrant, Christ-centered community.

Before moving to Columbia, Pastor Billy earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a master’s degree in Church Music from Mercer University. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Church Growth and Revitalization from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, equipping him to serve the local church with both theological depth and practical insight.

Pastor Billy’s heart beats for the mission of God—to reach the lost, disciple believers, and see churches flourish for the glory of Jesus Christ. His ministry is marked by a deep love for Scripture, a genuine care for people, and a passion to see every believer live out their faith boldly and joyfully.

Camille Jolly

Organist

Camille Jolly is a native of Sumter. She grew up in a Christian home where her father was an Episcopal Rector. She came to know the Lord at an early age and always enjoyed music and took piano and organ lessons as a child. She became the organist at Northside in September of 2001 and has enjoyed serving the congregation in that capacity ever since. She also serves Northside as Sunday School Director, sings in the choir, attends Ladies' Bible studies and helpa in the kitchen for most functions.

She is blessed to have a son Doc who is married to Kim, and to be called

"Gitgo" by three grandchildren, a grandson-in-law and three great grandchildren, who are all also very involved at Northside.

She enjoys Southern Gospel music and loves attending concerts.

“I am very Blessed to be able to share my musical talents with Northside Memorial Baptist Church.”

Karen Phillips

Learning Center Director

My name is Karen Phillips, and I am a lifelong resident of Sumter, South Carolina. I am married to Robert Phillips, and we are blessed with 19-year-old twins, Hazel-Grace and Kaleob Coker. I am currently employed at the Sumter Career and Technology Center, where I serve as the Attendance Clerk and Receptionist.

I was raised in a Christian home and came to know the Lord at the age of eleven. I was baptized a few weeks later, on Easter Sunday. For many years, I was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church, where I also began my journey working with children through their daycare ministry. I have been a member of Northside Baptist Church for a little over two years and have been actively involved in various areas of ministry. I currently teach three-year-olds in the AWANA program and serve in Children’s Church every other month.

I am a graduate of Sumter High School and the Sumter Career Center, where I completed the Cosmetology program. After discovering my true passion for early childhood education, I returned to school and earned an Associate Degree in Early Child Development and Community Service, graduating with honors.

Over the course of ten years at Crosswell Baptist Church Daycare, I held a variety of roles including after-school caregiver, toddler and K-4 teacher, finance assistant, Assistant Director, and Director.

Working with children has always been both my calling and my joy. Whether in the classroom, daycare setting, or church ministry, I am dedicated to helping each child grow in knowledge, confidence, and faith.

Holly Pate

Learning Center Assistant Director

Hello! My name is Holly Pate, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share a little about myself. I was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, and recently celebrated my 30th birthday on April 19th.

I have been a part of Northside Memorial Baptist Church since sixth grade—nearly twenty years. Northside has played a significant role in shaping both my faith and my calling. It was here that I first discovered my love for working with children and began developing the gifts God placed within me while still in high school.

For the past 16 years, I have been blessed to work in childcare, including 11 years in licensed childcare centers. My most recent roles include 3½ years at Under the Son Christian Academy and 7½ years at Grace Baptist Christian School. Over the years, I have had the joy of working with children of all ages, but my heart has always been with infants—that is truly where I feel called to serve.

In addition to teaching, I have had the privilege of assisting in leadership and administrative capacities, including classroom management, staff scheduling, tuition processing, record keeping, and ensuring compliance with DSS regulations. These experiences have strengthened my organizational and leadership skills and have helped prepare me for the next step in my professional journey.

When I’m not in the classroom or serving at church, I enjoy spending time with my five dogs, reading, visiting with family and friends, and finding new and creative ways to make the classroom a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment for children to learn and grow.

I am prayerfully seeking the opportunity to serve as Assistant Director and Infant Teacher at Anchored in Faith Learning Center at Northside. I am excited to see how God continues to lead in this next chapter of my professional, personal, and spiritual journey.
